The TRIO Educational Opportunity Center at UNI-CUE, along with Black Hawk County Veterans Affairs, UNI Military & Veteran Student Services and Hawkeye Community College Military and Veterans Services, will host a Veterans Resource and Open House Event of 9 a.m. at 2 p.m. August 8 at UNI-CUE, 800 Sycamore St.
The Educational Opportunity Center is an academic orientation program. The center promotes higher education for people from low-income background or who are not aware about educational opportunities. Professional and educational counselors help eligible adults select a postsecondary institution or training program. Counselors assist clients with the completion of applications for admission and financial aid, scholarship searches and delinquent student loans, as well as academic development workshops and academic counseling.
Veterans, current military personnel and their families can meet with local service providers about community resources. Experts in the field of VA benefits, legal advice, money management, education, health care, employment and more will be available.
The representatives of the offices of Senator Chuck Grassley, Senator Joni Ernst and the representative of the United States, Abby Finkenauer will be available from 10:30 to 10:50 a.m. for a 20-minute question and answer session.
This event is free and open to the public with a special invitation to military participants of TRIO EOC / UNI.
